Citation - Duncan McClure
Duncan McClure has been an active model flyer for over 50 years, during which he has contributed a huge amount to the non-competitive aspects of the sport. Having started off flying control line and free flight he soon moved on to RC, initially with a home built single channel radio.
His interests are now wide and varied including powered sport, scale and aerobatics, gliders (both slope and thermal), helicopters and, in more recent years, gas turbines and electric.
Duncan is a member of several BMFA Clubs but has had a long-term commitment to the White Horse Model Club on whose committee he served for several decades and held most of the senior posts. At club level, he has been responsible for the development of training materials and has trained many members, both young and old, in power, glider and helicopter flying.
In 1982 he was one of the earliest to gain his ‘B’ Certificate and Club Examiner ratings. He became an Area Chief Examiner in 2000 and is now an Area Chief Examiner and Instructor in all three disciplines.
As a qualified pilot with a PPL(A) with IMC rating and having worked most of his life in the nuclear industry as a radiation physicist, Duncan has a highly professional attitude to safety, and it is in this area that his contribution to model flying has been exceptional.
He has been the BMFA Achievement Scheme controller for over a decade during which he combined the roles for Fixed Wing and Silent Flight, Duncan has been a strong advocate of the scheme, keeping the test material up to date and relevant, and introducing several initiatives to encourage clubs and individual members to embrace the tests.
As a long-term member of the Jet Modellers Association committee, currently its secretary, he has also been instrumental in engendering a vital safety culture amongst the ever-growing jet flying community.
Duncan first became involved in the higher-level organisation of the BMFA as the Council Delegate for the South Midland Area. This experience as a Director, and his long-standing involvement with member clubs though the Achievement Scheme, made him well-placed to be the first Members Director following the re-structuring of the BMFA Board.
Under his chairmanship the Areas Council has re-gained its relevance and become an important conduit for the sharing of best practise and presenting a strong voice of the membership to the Board. On leaving the post to become BMFA Vice Chairman he leaves the Areas Council in good shape for his successor.
Citation - Kevin Caton
Kevin Caton’s name is deeply embedded in the world of Radio-Controlled Aerobatics and has been so for many years. He has been involved in R/C flying since the 1970s, competing in R/C aerobatics nationally for over 40 years, he entered his first major aerobatic competition as a junior in 1980.
He has a long and highly distinguished history with the Great Britain R/C Aerobatic Association, marked by decades of competitive excellence and leadership.
Kevin is a multi-time UK National Champion and has been a member of the UK F3A Team at an incredible total of 20 European and World Championships since 1995. Kevin has travelled the world competing at the highest level in countries including Japan, America and throughout Europe. His achievement in maintaining such an exceptional standard of performance and competitiveness over so many years is truly remarkable and throughout his career, Kevin has always been highly respected as a pilot, a competitor, a published author on the topic and a mentor to up and coming pilots across the UK.
He is the epitome of a true ambassador for British Aeromodelling, representing the UK with distinction on the international stage.
At CIAM level he currently holds the position of F3A Working Group Coordinator having sat on the F3A Sub-Committee since 2021.
Domestically, Kevin has held many and varied committee positions within his Specialist Body and has been their representative on the BMFA RC Power Technical Committee for many years up to 2026, also holding the role of Secretary or Chairman of the Technical Committee during that time.
Paying it forwards, Kevin has been instrumental in running aerobatic development days, supporting pilots who are new to F3A, as well as those looking to improve and develop their skills. His dedication to F3A and his willingness to give his time and experience to help others is unmatched.
More recently Kevin has turned his hand to RC Pylon racing and whilst his racing circuits are perfectly symmetrical with all radii equal and beautifully flown at a constant height – they are quite slow for pylon racing but would score well if they were judged like F3A!
Kevins outstanding contribution to British Aeromodelling, both through his remarkable international competitive career and through his service to the wider F3A community, is absolutely deserving of a Fellowship.
